FAQ's
Commissioning Your Custom Portrait
While dogs and cats make up the majority of my commissioned work, I'm happy to paint any animal—no species is off limits! In addition to pet portraits, I also create landscapes, human portraits, wedding portraits, and prom portraits, always bringing the same level of care and detail to every subject.
That said, pet portraits remain my most requested commissions—and they're an absolute joy to paint.
Authenticity and Presentation
Each commissioned artwork comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, personally signed by me, and beautifully presented in a protective folder for safekeeping. Additionally, a second certificate will be affixed to the back of the painting, complete with a stamped authentication mark. These certificates not only guarantee the originality and provenance of your artwork but also offer peace of mind.
Gifts?
If you’re commissioning a piece as a gift, these certificates make for wonderful keepsakes, adding an extra special touch to your thoughtful gesture.
There are plenty of options when it comes to the background of your pet’s portrait. At no extra cost, I can create a simple, painterly backdrop that complements your pet beautifully. If you’d like something more detailed—like a garden, room setting, or specific location—I’m happy to paint that for an additional fee.
I can work directly from your reference photo, or I can design a completely unique setting if you have something special in mind. Once your deposit is received and work has commenced on your portrait, I’ll send you a digital mockup (created using the Procreate app) so you’ll have a clear idea of how your final painting will look before I begin work on the canvas.
Absolutely! If you'd like to see progress photos as your painting comes to life, just let me know when placing your order. I’m happy to send updates via email as I work through each layer of your portrait.
I also regularly share works-in-progress on my social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, and often create time-lapse videos for YouTube. If you’d prefer your commission not be shared publicly—or if it’s a gift and you’d like it kept under wraps until after it’s given—just let me know and I’ll gladly wait.
All progress and final approval images will be watermarked.
Whether or not you request progress shots, I’ll always send high-quality images of the finished painting for your approval before it’s shipped.
Once we’ve confirmed your commission and agreed on the final reference photo, I’ll send you an invoice. You can choose to pay either via PayPal (which accepts most major credit and debit cards) or by BACS direct bank transfer.
Your invoice will include all the details you need to make your payment, so you can simply choose the option that suits you best
Your satisfaction is incredibly important to me, which is why I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee for peace of mind. I won’t ship your painting until you’ve approved a high-quality scan of the final piece.
If, at that stage, you’re not happy with the result, I will refund all monies paid (minus any bank or transaction fees incurred at booking). In that case, I retain full rights to the artwork, including the option to sell or reproduce it.
That said, this situation has never happened yet! I work closely with you from the very beginning, helping you choose the right photo reference and providing a digital mock-up for your approval before I ever pick up a brush. My goal is to ensure you’re completely happy with the final piece, and I’m confident in my ability to capture your pet’s (or loved one’s) likeness in oils.
Once you’ve approved the final scan and the painting has been shipped, refunds are no longer available unless the painting arrives damaged. If that happens, simply return it to me in its original packaging for a full refund. Return shipping costs are the buyer’s responsibility.
