Leo – Labrador Puppy Portrait

I was commissioned to paint Leo, an adorable Labrador puppy, as a surprise Christmas gift for my client’s sister. We agreed on a beautiful reference photo for the pose, but since the lighting in it didn’t quite reflect Leo’s true colouring, the client sent over several additional images. These helped me mix accurate tones while still using the original pose. She requested a light background, so I opted for a soft, blended effect that allows Leo’s colouring to shine.

Painted on a 12x12-inch board, the composition felt just right for this sweet full-body pose. I’ve also included photos of the gift packaging — these portraits are presented beautifully, especially when they’re intended as heartfelt gifts.
