This 9x12 inch oil painting on canvas board may be small in size, but it captures a huge amount of character. Loki, a Siamese mix, was a joy to paint—especially those striking blue eyes, which instantly reminded me of our own cat Marlow (a Siberian with slightly longer fur but the same piercing gaze).

The composition was based on a photo of Loki perched on the stair carpet—one of her favourite spots—which made it a perfect and meaningful choice for her portrait. I was sent several reference photos to help with her colouration, ensuring every detail felt true to life.

I've also included a photo of the beautiful blue frame her owners selected to complement her eyes. She now hangs proudly in their home, admired every day.

As with all my work, I started with a Raw Umber underpainting and built up the layers gradually, allowing the softness of her fur and the gentle light in the scene to emerge naturally.
