I had such a beautiful reference photo to work from for this gorgeous girl, Molly. She was an absolute joy to paint. This portrait was created as a companion piece to her "brother" Domino, and I designed the backgrounds in a similar style so they would complement each other perfectly in the home.

Painted on an 11x14-inch canvas board, the piece began, as always, with a raw umber underpainting. I built up the layers gradually over several weeks, allowing the depth and softness of her character to emerge at a natural pace.
