I’ve always loved painting still life, and Lemons & Loaf was a real pleasure to create. There’s something timeless about the warm tones of fresh lemons set against a rustic loaf, especially when they’re placed in front of a deep, dramatic black background. It gives the whole piece a quiet elegance,  simple, classic, and honest.
 
I approached this painting with the same traditional process I use for all my still life work, building the light carefully to let the forms sit naturally in the scene. The contrast between the bright citrus and the darker backdrop was particularly enjoyable to shape, giving the piece that old-world feel I’m always drawn to.
 
The panel is 9x12 inches and framed in a striking black St. Ives wood frame, bringing the final size to roughly 15x12 inches. There is a small mounted Certificate of Authenticity fixed to the back of the panel for provenance, and it also includes a full signed certificate presented separately in a protective folder.
 
This is the original painting, and no prints will be made, making Lemons & Loaf an exclusive collector’s piece,  a warm, inviting artwork that would sit beautifully in a kitchen or dining space.
